Hi there
I'm new to this site, and was wondering if there was anyone else researching in Whitwell or Creswell?
Or Breaston? (my Plackett's are a nightmare  )
I also have family popping up in Alfreton, Stanton-le-Dale, Sandiacre, Brimington and Barbadoes!

If you enter the names in the search box you will find several posts. None of them may be of interest but someone was looking for a Creswell in the Manchester area...not a zillion miles away from Derbyshire.

Hi there
I'm new to this site, and was wondering if there was anyone else researching in Whitwell or Creswell?
Two sites which might help for Whitwell ..........
http://www.whitwell.com/ is a general interest site, and
http://www.wlhg.com (I think) which is the site for the very active Local History Society who hold extensive records.
Creswell grew up as a village because of the mines, the earlier records are to be found with the ancient parish of Clowne.
I believe Alfreton also has a Local History Society.
Good luck in your searches.
Eileen
Addendum ..... should have mentioned that Brimington got its church c1800, before that it was part of Chesterfield parish. Would you like to tell us the names you are researching in these areas ?

Thank you for those sites Eileen, I've found quite a lot of useful information already on the Whitwell pages:)
I'm looking for Richardson, Yates, Beech and Presley in Whitwell, Glossop and Bartholomew in Creswell, Plackett in Breaston, Parnham in Alfreton(passing mention in Brimington) and Seal(e)s in Sandiacre and Stanton-le-Dale

I have just got back from 2 days at Derbyshire archives at Matlock & a day at Lichfield. Lichfield has the pre-1858 wills for Derbyshire. Matlock has indexed transcriptions of many of the Derbyshire church registers, including Alfreton. I was looking through the marriages & MIs for Alfreton. I don't have any of the names you mention.

Hi Wirral
From memory (haven't got my tree with me at the moment)it would be baptisms in Alfreton rather than marriages, but interesting to know there are no MI's there either.
Thank you
I will jsut have to concentrate on the other parishes next time at Matlock RO. I will need to get to Lichfield to look at some BT's as well (Whitwell PR's were apparently water damaged.)

Hi Lizricho
Sorry, I should have made it clear - I do not have any of your names in my family tree. There may well be some of your family listed in the MIs or the church records.
The church in Alfreton is very pretty. They have used a lot of the old gravestones to make paths & walls, but they do seem to have transcribed them all first!

Hi
Have you tried Mike Spencer's Yesterday Site (Derbyshire only), there are a few Placket's popping up?
Bear in mind that it is ongoing, so it will be worth your while returning every week or two.
