This is my first posting. I have just learned the name of a Mother of one of my relatives. It is a Martha Conum.
This information came from a death record for a John Murdock who died in Allegan, Michigan in 1903. John was born in England...have no clue where, about 1827.
Here's what I know. John's father, a Benjamin Murdock (Murdoch) born about 1796 in Nova Scotia seems to have gone to England and married there. If I have the correct information on Benjamin, he had older brothers with the Roayl Navy and so might have also been with the Navy and ended up in England that way.
I found a John (1827)and James (1825) Murdock on the 1850 New York census as ship carpenters. In 1860 John is now a farmer, married and living near Port Huron, Michigan and living next door to his father, Benjamin, also a farmer. They eventually move to the west side of the state of Michigan by the 1870 census. There also seems to be a daughter/sister named Jane Murdock born in London about 1833. She eventually moves back to Nova Scotia, marries and eventually ends up in Yakama, Washington.
So my question is...does anyone have any info on the Cumun name? Or could this name have been mis-spelled?
I'd appreciate any help on this matter...:)
Thanks,
Karen
