Can anyone help me,I am looking for information on an ancestor of mine.

My ancestor was called John Phiefer and arrived in England in the early 1900s and became an English citizen in 1913 in Barrow-in-Furness,Cumbria.

He had 3 brothers who came with him to England; one(Phillip) lived in Kendal,Cumbria whilst the others moved to Scotland before heading to America.

John changed his surname to Phifer.The brothers that went to Scotland might have changed theirs to Fifer.

I would watch out for people called Pfeifer too.

Barrow in Furness was part of Lancashire until 1974 when Cumbria was "invented". The Lancashire board might be the place to ask.
