Hello all
I am looking for the family of Charles Simpson, born abt 1822 Laxfield, Sufolk, wife Hellen born abt 1830 Kenton, Suffolk, children were John b abt 1849, Mary Ann b abt 1851, James b abt 1853, Fanny b abt 1856, all in Debenham Suffolk.
I have found the family in 1861, and found sons John and James in Islington, in 1871 but had no luck with any other census, if any one can help find the family or any family member I would realy appreciate it.
Regards Sue

The 1871 census shows Charles Simpson with Rachel in Debenham.

Do you have the birth certificate of one of the children showing the mother's maiden name? Or any firm evidence of the woman's name?

The IGI has a daughter b to Charles and Rachel in 1851 called Mary Ann (rather than Miriam). There are one or two possibilities for Hellen (Ellen?) on the IGI b in Kenton around 1830 but Rachel Brunning comes up there too.

So Rachel was one wife and Hellen another OR they are the same person and the name is merely wrong on the census. A copying error perhaps?

Do you have any birth certs for any of the children - ideally one before and 1861 and one after would be ideal but that would just be too good to be true.

Charles and Rachel appear on the 1871 (no children with them) but he is shown as being b in Laxfield.

The 1881 has a widowed Charles of around the right age still in Debenham.

HI I am hoping you still subscribe to this forum as I just found the post and joined. I am descended from the marriage of Charles Simpson and Rachel Brunning, and further down the line, from the marriage of Jasper Fordham and Fanny Simpson.
I have quite a lot of info mainly gleaned from other researchers but al also trying to bottom out the ancestors of Charles and Rachel. There seems to be quite a few Brunning families in the Bosmere area using similar names and alhtough i know this marriage is the right one, I am not at all sure of their parents. Do get bakc in touch if you have anything more to share or I may have some things oyu od not have. Jan
