On looking at the requirements for a marriage , you have to produce a passport or birth certificate to prove your age. Was this also standard practice in 1940.
I am trying to ascertain if the age given of the groom is accurate, or if like in the very early days , people just told porkies, and added or subtracted from their age to suit their own stories.
Would be very gratefull for an answer that will give me a good chance to search for a birth, knowing if I should give or take on the age/birth year.
