I cant work out the occupation on a death certificate. I was thinking of taking a picture, cropping the bit I cant read and then attaching to a post, to see if any eagle-eyed people can help.

Is this Ok or a strict NO NO copyright wise? (I dont possess a scanner so it might not work anyway)

It's no problem at all to do that. Then we can all try to help.

Cheers

Thanks Rod,
Here is the offending article.
Its the death certificate for a Mary Smith. In the "Occupation" column is her husband David Smith, then there is a line and presumably his occupation underneath.
The first letter looks very much like the "C" in Cowplain, where they lived, and maybe it says Coal something.
Any wiser guesses?

On the 1841 census he is "Ind" (as in "independant means" I presume) and 80 years old.
I've ordered his death cert (from a few years later) which maybe more illuminating but it would be good to solve it now.
Couldnt attach any more as it would have been over memory.

Unfortunately, Rod has evidently misunderstood what you meant by "attaching" to a post, so we can't see it. It's not a fault at your end - all your camera info is there if I look at the image properties, so you got it right at your end, but the built-in image attachment facility on the forum is disabled, and (as Rod explained when I raised the matter in another thread) it's not possible to turn off the message that leads you to believe that it's functioning, so there's not much he can do about it!

Basically, you'll need to upload it to either your own web space or a free image hosting service such as Photobucket or FlickR and link to that.
In between me seeing this last night and getting around to replying, Rod has kindly saved me typing half of what I was going to say by creating a How to post pictures in messages (http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/showthread.php?p=102342) thread, so have a read of that and you should then be OK.

If you don't know how to use your own web space, or don't have any, I've not used FlickR, but Photobucket is certainly easy to use.
