Please Can somebody help!
My grandfather James Thornbury served in the Artillery, or Feild Artillery during the Anglo Boer War. He served and was taken prisoner at Ladysmith!
What are the chances of obtaining his service records? with so little info, also is there a medal roll for this Boer War? He was born in the city of Belfast circa 1880/1881
I really would appreciate some help with this Thank you all
Kate

A very good chance if you follow Peter's link - however - if anyone is hunting for similar information, do also remember that a Naval Brigade was landed with several pieces of artillery in South Africa, and the brigade also fought as infantry. If you do not know the branch of the services in which an ancestor served, try TNA's documents online http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/
where you can search for and downloand RN service records. Checking the records costs nothing and can at least confirm that someone was/was not in the RN
