I recently discovered a marriage record on Scotland's People for my 7 times Great Grandfather James Ferguson to Elspeth Taylor in Coldstream on 3 December 1700. According to the information their he was a drummer with Captain Douglas's troup who were based in Coldtream. How would I go about locating more information on this group. 1700 is a long time ago and I am not sure how to proceed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Captain Douglas's troup
I think that's probably troop :D :D :D
1700 is a bit early for finding useful records but have a look at the National Archives Research Guides under "British Army" -

Thanks for the advise Peter and I apologise for the spelling error. I should have proof read it before clicking on submit. I will definitely try that web site.

No need to apologise. Saying 'troupe' (nearly) made me imagine a group of squaddies who put the fear of God into the enemy with their high kicking song and dance routine.
