Hi, I am looking for the parents of Clarence Reginald JUDE born 1922 Royston, on the birth index it says his mothers maiden name is Jude, so I am now stuck.
Any help would be grately received.

If you buy the birth certificate you will know if his mother was unmarried (probably) or married a Jude cousin. This certifcate will give you the mother's first name which might help you trace her line further back.

My wife has a connection to a Caroline JUDE (b. 1866) whose family were from Barrington, CAM - not very far from Royston. (She wasn't an ancestor, but married to one.)

A few years ago we came across a local history booklet on Barrington, written by Ray and Margaret Jude, and in their introduction they mentioned having lots of information on the Jude family there. We couldn't find any current contact details for them, though.

Since then a descendant of Caroline Jude has sent us a Jude pedigree going back to about 1550 (compiled in 1990, we think by Ray Jude), though it only has dates, not locations. Only some lines continue into the 20th century, and there's no sign of a Clarence Reginald, although there are a couple of early 20th century Reginalds. If you can get back a generation or two, we might possibly find a connection...

Now you've found the birth in the index, you can order the birth certificate. That's what the index is for.

Hi Arthur,
I am posting this is because I am very interested in your wifes Jude line from Barrington.
By any chance does she have a Robert Newman Jude born 1844 in Barrington in her Barrington pedigree?

The reason I ask is because just recently I have been contacted on another site by descendents of Robert Newman Jude who was married to a distant ancestor of mine.
Robert married an Eliza Rule in 1862, they had two children William born 1863 and Sarah born 1864.
In the 1871 census Robert was in Pentonville prison and William and Sarah were in the workhouse, Eliza disappeared, so far Robert's descendents have found no trace of her unless she reverted back to her maiden surname.

I know its a long shot but I was wondering if you or any other Barrington Jude descendents you may be in contact with would know what happened to Eliza.

Hi Nette

The pedigree does have someone who looks like Robert: it shows a "Bob" born 11 Feb 1844, son of Jonathan (b 1823) and Ada-Diana Newman (m Oct 1843). Unfortunately, though, there isn't any more about him, or any mention of Eliza.

Interestingly, it appears that Jonathan's elder brother John married an Elizabeth Rule in 1839. And to explain my wife's connection, Caroline (b 1866) whom I mentioned before was the youngest daughter of William, another of Jonathan's brothers. So it looks as though Caroline and Robert Newman were first cousins, although of rather different ages.

Hi Arthur,

Yes it is the correct Bob/Robert his parents are Jonathon and Ada.

Looking at Roberts descendents tree it looks as though Robert's grandfather was also called Jonathon and his grandmother was Sarah Chapman and that Robert was the oldest of 14 children.

Yes it is interesting that another Eliza Rule married into the Jude family in 1839, its possible she may have been an aunt to the Eliza Rule in my tree.
