Hi

Do you mean you want the details from the census? If so, there is a John Vile who is a Police Constable, living with his family at 2 Goods Place, Surrey, Newington.

Here are the full details - the ages of the parents do not match, but quite a lot of the information is the same - do you think this is the correct family?

Newington, Trinity, - Surrey

Ann Vile born 1822 North Curry, Somerset - Wife
Caroline Vile born 1847 North Curry, Somerset - Niece
Job Vile 1846 born North Curry, Somerset - Son
John Vile 1822 born Curry Millett, Somerset - Head
Ruth Vile 1848 born Yeovil, Somerset - Daughter
William Vile 1850 born North Curry, Somerset - Son

Hello Bumblebee

Thank you so very much for your info. I already have several wrong certs & now trying for more positive confirmations. Your info has stimulated me into checking and rechecking every bit of info I have. The census info you provided is so close that it requires following up on.

John & Ann death certs. identify them both born in 1817. The following is your info with my dates bracketed
John Vile 1822 born Curry Millett, Somerset – Head - (b.1817, christened 18.9.25 at South Petherton, Somerset)
Ann Vile born 1822 North Curry, Somerset - Wife - (b.1817)
Job Vile 1846 born North Curry, Somerset – Son - (b.1845)
Ruth Vile 1848 born Yeovil, Somerset – Daughter - (b.1848)
William Vile 1850 born North Curry, Somerset – Son - (b.1853)
Caroline Vile born 1847 North Curry, Somerset - Niece

When the family emigrated from Liverpool on 30/11/1856, aboard the ship; Ann Wilson, the family consisted of John (b.1817), Ann (b.1817), Job (b.1845), Catherine (b.1846), Ruth (b.1848), William (b.1853) & Emma (b.1855)

Marriage Document; No 129. shows:
John Vile, Stonecutter, age c/full a/c, father Joseph Vile, Occupation looks something like Lime Burner. (I have studied the writing for many hours but still unsure of occupation) and Ann Foster, age “the same”, father William Foster, deceased. Both John & Ann were living at Taunton, St. James, Somerset.
Marriage solemnized after Banns, in the Parish Church of St. James, Taunton, Somerset, on September 22nd. 1844
Witness were George Day and Jemima Vile (the writing looks like Jemima)
It is a pity their ages were not disclosed on the cert.
John Viles death certificate shows he was born in Somersetshire and his father as CP style="MARGIN: 0px">

The 6.6.1841 Census - Petherton, Somerset, should show John as similat to the following:
Joseph Vile age 42, Lime Burner? in 1844 & butcher at a later stage
Harriett Vile age 43
John Vile age 24 (This is the John from the above marriage cert)
Joseph Vile age 17
James Vile age 12
The above persons are the only family so far located

Once again, thank you for your info
Donald

Hello Maz1
Thank you for the burial list. None of the persons gel at the moment, however I am sure the info will come in handy when I get further involved with this particular Vile and Foster family.

Hello Bumblebee
Thank you for your added information.
It does seem probable this is the family I am searching for, even although between the 1841 & 1851 census, the age of Joseph has jumped 19yrs in the 10 yr period and Priscilla 18yrs in 10yrs.
Bumblebee, do you happen to have any further follow through census info on this family?
Regarding daughter Rhoda, also jumped 12yrs in 10yrs. and despite going over several maps have not been able to find Barcombe, Somerset, as her place of birth. It must be a very insignificant location rather than a village.

Did either of the 1841 and 1851 census give a street address?
It seems I will shortly be doing another round of cert. applications on this family, and as you appear to be very knowledgeable in Somerset families, have you any advice on this aspect, particularly related to expense? My past experience of identifying persons though wrong certificate leads has been quite expensive, so if there is such a thing as an expense shortcut in Somerset research it would be great to know of.

Once again I thank you for your information of which I am most appreciative of. Particularly as it appears this may be one of the families I am searching for.

Hi Donald

Well to try and clarify where Rhoda may have been born, this is the 1861 census. (I also think that the 1851 census image could say Beer Crocombe).

Rhoda Vile, 30, born about 1831 Beer Crocombe, Somerset,

St Michael, Somerset,

Street address: Mills?

Joseph Vile 64 Head, born Curry Mallett, Somerset, Ag Lab!
Luisa Vile 5 Granddaughter born North Petherton, Somerset
Rhoda Vile 30 Daughter

RG9; Piece: 1622; Folio: 92; Page: 24; GSU roll: 542841.

Beer Crocombe does exist, so I suspect that this is the correct name, it is also within a couple of miles of Curry Mallett.

Donald

The 1841 census does not have an actual address, just Wrantage in the parish of North Curry.

Same for 1851, no actual address, just Durston. I checked to see if any roads where named in the enumerators description, but it just says the 'whole of the parish of Durston'.

I don't know of any short cuts as regards the certificates I'm afraid. If you can get a parish record look-up that can cut down on the costs. Although I would always try for a certificate to establish a direct line. (obviously from registration onwards).

The ages of these Viles do seem to be inconsistent, but I cannot see a duplicate family, so I am as sure as I can be that this is the same family.

A possible marriage for Rhoda Viles to a George White in Q4 1867, 5c 649.

There is more than one Rhoda Vile/s in that area but this Rhoda gives her place of birth consistently as Beer Crocombe, which made me think it is a good possible..

1871 Census

North Petherton, North Newton, Somerset

Street address: Newton Road

Betsy White 2 born North Petherton,
George White 45 born North Petherton, Carpenter.
Nelley White 4 months, born North Petherton,
Rhoda White 40 born Beer Crocombe, Somerset, Dressmaker. (Rhoda has consistently had this as her occupation)

RG10; Piece: 2382; Folio: 53; Page: 3; GSU roll: 835107.

I cannot find Louisa in 1871, but there is a death of a Louisa in 1863, may or may not be her.

Hello Bumblebee
Thank you for your info. I have subsequently been researching the info I have surrounding these families and. now within your last posting your mention of occupation; “Dressmaker. (Rhoda has consistently had this as her occupation)”. ties in; so it does appear this Rhoda married George. They are recorded as having married at St Michaels Church, on 07 Nov 1867. However as yet I have not defined this church., which could perhaps be; St Michael’s Parish Church, Creech St Michael

It seems only Rhoda is in the 1881 census, which could perhaps indicate that Geo White may have died before 1881.

Bumblebee, do you happen to know if there is a website that shows all the cemeteries and parishes in the general Taunton, Bridgwater, Beercrocombe areas?
To be able to identify who died where, will assist me greatly with follow up certs. I do have quite a few of them but also missing many places, such as Bridgwater and North Petherton cemetery info, etc.
Thanks again
Donald
