I am trying to find out about my 3 x great grandparents George Dilley and his wife Elizabeth.
George was born in 1800 in Eynesbury in Huntingtonshire. However he married Elizabeth and their first son George was born in 1823 in Sherston Magna, so I am assuming Elizabeth came from this parish. George junior was christened in SM on 11th May 1823. The family later moved to Bristol.
I am particularly interested in Elizabeth's maiden name and details of he parents. However any information on the Dilley family would be very helpful.
Thank you
Dave

In 1861, George and Elizabeth (both 62) are in Newington, Surrey with their son's son George (11). Class: RG9; Piece: 345; Folio: 163; Page: 12
In 1851, George and Elizabeth (both 51) are in Newington, Surrey with children Elizabeth (19), John (17), Thomas (14), and William(10). Son George (28) is living next door with his wife Jane (30) and their children Ann (2) and George (1). Class: HO107; Piece: 1566; Folio: 602; Page: 16
Wife Elizabeth is listed as born in Sherston, while George, Jr, Elizabeth, and John are listed as born in Bristol. Thomas and William are listed as born in London (Surrey), as is George, Jr's wife and children.
In 1841, George (42) and Elizabeth (41) are in Newington, Surrey with children George (18), Mary Ann (17), Louisca (13), Elizabeth (9), John (7), Thomas (5), and William (11 mos). Class: HO107; Piece 1064; Book: 12; Civil Parish: St Mary Newington; County: Surrey; Enumeration District: 23; Folio: 7; Page: 6
All are listed as born in Surrey.
Will keep looking...

There is a birth for William Dilley registered in Newington, Surrey in Mar qtr 1841:
Name: William Charles Dilley
Year of Registration: 1841
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
District: Newington
County: Surrey
Volume: 4
Page: 356
This may be your William. The birth record would give the mother's maiden name - if her first name is Elizabeth, and the father is George, it's likely the birth was registered when William was a few months old, and that it's him. This would help with researching her family - I suggest you might want to send for this certificate to see...

Hi Debbie Ann
Many thanks for the information. It has clarified some of the details I already had. I seem to have hit a wall with regard to Elizabeth and I guess I will have to send to the UK for a couple of certificates. If you do find anything else it would be much appreciated.
Thanks again
Regards
Dave
