Still birth and miscarriage

Can anyone give me information about registration of still birth babies and late miscarriages in reference to birth certs and death certs? interested in time period of 1870's

Stillbirths were registered from 1 Jul 1927 (foetal deaths at or over 28 weeks gestation). The registers are not open to the public. Statistical details are available.

This refers to England & Wales. I don't know about Scotland.

When looking through late 18thC & 19thC church records this week, I came across a couple of references to burials of stillborn children. So even if the birth & death were not registered, it is possible that there may be church records.
