Hi folks
I am descended from Simon and Mary Kennedy of Stapleton. Simon must have been born around 1820, he was a shoemaker and lived in Longrigg.
Mary was born Armstrong in Northumberland.
They had at least two sons, John, born 1843 and Thomas. John married a Mary Gillespy, also from Stapleton.
If anyone has any further information on these families I would be extremely grateful,

Hi,
I'm not sure if there is a connection to your Kennedys, but my GGGrandmother, was Isabella Kennedy, born about 1849 in Stapleton, I am waiting for her birth certificate to arrive to show me her parents. Stapleton was a relatively small area in those days, so maybe we are related somehow!

I will look for yours as I search for mine.

Best wishes
Kate

I believe my great great grandfather was born JAMES POTTS in Longtown around 1848. In 1851 he seems to be living as a nurse-child with the KENNEDY family in Stapleton. Head of the household is John Kennedy b.1793 and his wife Mary. There are three other children in the house - John, James and Jane KENNEDY.

My gg grandfather appears to have used the surname POTTS KENNEDY in later life. He married Hannah MURRAY on 28th January 1871 at Arthuret.

Please contact me if you have any further information about the Potts or Kennedy families.

Many thanks

A long time ago you responded to my posting about the Kennedy family from Stapleton. I am now housebound and have more time to spend on my family history. How are you getting on? I found your Isabella and would be happy to pass on details if you still need them. Isabella's father was a clogger, my ancestor, Simon was a shoemaker. There must be a connection but I have not been able to find one.
Best wishes,
Dorothy
