Helen Dobson was born in Hungerford in 1856. The middle child of George and Alice Dobson. Census of 1861(the spellng was Dobren!) she was living (after her mother's death) with her her 2 brothers and grandmother Jane Tubb and great grandparents Charles and Elizabeth Tubb (census spelling Jubb!) at Smitham Bridge Hungerford. Can anyone help find her?
Thanks

Hello Annie,
Thanks for your reply. I have got the 1871 census for Ellen Dobson and just wondered if anyone had her as marrying into their family. I am finding it very difficult trying to do my research from up here in the Spanish hillside, no Broadband and large telephone bills! Any advice would be appreciated,
Regards Fortuna

Hello Paul,
Thank you so much for that info. I agree that the 1st 3 children were probably adopted. At least she didn't have quite so many children as her brothers Charles, 6 or 7 and Joseph, 11!
And it's interesting to find some members who were not Ag. Labs. I imagine fitter would have meant a connection with the railways.
Thanks again for finding that part of my jigsaw puzzle.

I think it's more likely that the 3 eldest children were Georges from a previous marriage.
In 1871 there is a George Coulton (sic), 24, Fitter & Turner, born in Reading, living in Newbury. He is shown as married but he is alone on census night with visitor, William Wakefield.
(RG10; Piece: 1250; Folio: 25; Page: 4)
I couldn't find a marriage between 1865 & 1871 in Berkshire ...
Another piece of the puzzle !
