Hi All,

Thought it was about time that I posted to the forum.

My mother's family are the Lacey line and for all I knew were from the Plymouth area, until I discovered Edward Lacey on the 1851 census where it is shown that he came from Wotton-under-Edge in Glocs. (for 1881 it is Wotton-under-Age!) He was born about 1820, occupation Brushmaker and subsequently married a Betsy Peters Shears in Plymouth.

If anyone has Edward in their tree I would be pleased to hear from them. As I live close to Bristol I am now within striking distance of Wotton to carry out further research.

Cousins perhaps to my Lacey line ? I have ALL of my Lacey's in WUE. I can trace the family line back to early 1600's. My focus, however, has been on Cowper Lacey b. 1811 (son of Thomas b 1778 and Sarah (Hopkins)) and his wife Emma (Cossens) b 1811. They came to the United States aprrox. 1843.

Hi Donna,

Thanks for your comments. Apologies about the delay in replying but a little thing called Christmas got in the way of my research.

Your comments are very interesting and I am hoping that you have hit the nail on the head with Cowper Lacey. My relative, Edward Lacey had a son in 1866 called Thomas and his middle name was Cowper. This is my great grandfather. I somehow cannot believe that this is just a coincidence. I will contact you off forum with full details of the line I have.

Whilst researching the Holloway family in WUE I have found a Mary Lacey married to Samuel Holloway in WUE in 1722. Do you have this marriage and any consequent Holloway's in your files?

Cheers, Irene
