My maternal grandfather Harry Charles Abbott (born 16 Oct 1886) was a member of the west Sussex Constabulary, based mostly in Worthing, I believe.

Please can anyone advise me how to find his service record?

No - I suppose that is the obvious place to start!

If you don't find owt at the Records Office, you might try Sussex Police HQ at Lewes, some forces have small musuems and/or collections of records. You won't find a service record in the same way that you do for military services.
