According to census returns in 1871/1881 , John Scoot was born about 1848 in Luffenhall. However i have been unable to track him down in 1851/1861 to get an idea of his parentage. If anyone has access to the Luffenhall PR's i would be grateful if they could check if there is a baptism record for John.
Thanks. Mick

There is also an extracted baptismal record on the IGI of a John SCOOTE on 26 September 1846 at Clothall, father Thomas, mother Elizabeth. Here is what looks like Thomas & Elizabeth in the 1861 census of Luffenhall, Clothall:

RG9/816, folio 118, page 6
Schedule 25, Luffenhall

Thomas SCOOT Head Mar 46 Ag Lab Herts Wallington
Elizabeth do Wife Mar 40 Straw Plaiter do Clothall

The next entry down is a Thomas SCOOT, Widr, 65, Ag Lab, born Wallington plus daughter and son in law Sarah and John LONG and 3 grandchildren Charles, Mary Ann and Emily SCOOT aged respectively 21, 9 and 3 all born Clothall except Emily who was born in Cottered who could be connected.

However, I can't find a likely John in the 1861 census.

Hi Mick,

I checked the IGI Baptismal entry for John with the Clothall Parish Records and can confirm the details given by Janet.
A further search at Clothall revealed the following marriage ...

Thomas Scoote Bach Labourer of Luffenhall s/o Thomas Scoote labourer and Elizabeth Clements Sp Straw Plaiter of Luffenhall d/o James Clements Labourer were married 21st June 1845 at Clothall. Witnesses William Gray, Alexander Newman and Philip Long (Church official).

Hope this helps.

Regards ... Peter
