Asking the favour of a look-up if anyone has census for Bramhall Cheshire area for 1851/61 or 71 please. Looking for Isaac LEAH and his wife Jane. I know from 1881 that Jane came from Yorkshire, but I would like to know where Isaac came from if possible, and he died in 1875. Can't find his birth in Cheshire so need to know if I should be looking elsewhere. TIA

Also, it's worth noting that Isaac Leah's age in 1871 may be 51, not 57. It's sometimes difficult to distinguish a 1 from a 7 but 51 is certainly a better age match for Isaac who is 41 in the 1861 census.
Hope this helps.

Hi
I would agree with Trish that age for Isaac Leah is 51 on 1871 Census. Misread the writing!

Thanks very much Trish & Phil for the look-ups. That's great. Yes Isaac will be 51. It's annoying that Jane's birthplace is down as Bramhall Cheshire, as I know it was actually Yorkshire. So Idon't know whether Isaac's is correct or not. Never mind I shall have to struggle on with that. Nice to know about Elizabeth, who I didin't know about. Harriett is my grt grandmother, so good to know where she was then. I'm just missing one son now who I suspect is called Charles or Edward, but I have a feeling he moved when he married.
Thanks very much, it is appreciated.

Barbara,
I just looked at the census image to be sure -- Phil probably already did this -- sometimes transcribers make mistakes... but no, the enumerator has written "do" [ditto] for Jane's birthplace indicating that it was the same as Isaac's and the same for the children. It's probably the enumerator's error, however, there's a good chance Isaac's birthplace is correctly recorded.
Do you have the 1891 census info for Jane? There her birthplace is shown as Warthel,Yorkshire:
Name / Age / Birthplace / Relationship / Occupation
Leah, Jane 62 Warthel, Yorkshire Head Widow
Leah, Sarah A 38 Bramshall, Cheshire Daughter Silk Weaver
Leah, Mary Ellie 36 Bramshall, Cheshire Daughter
Leah, Annie M 26 Bramshall, Cheshire Daughter Cook Domestic Servant
Leah, Dorothy J 6 Manchester, Lancashire Visitor
In regard to Charles or Edward Leah:
The 1871 census shows an Edward, 18, born in Bramshall, living in Lancashire but he appears to be with his mother, Mary Ann Leah, 52, and brother Alfred, 17.
There's also a Charles D., 10, born in Bramshall but he's with parents David, 57, and Eliza, 54, and brother Joseph, 11.
Hope this is of some use to you!

Thanks for that Trish
I think you are right about Isaac's birthplace because his says the same through all the census years. Jane's is correct on 1881, 1891 and 1901 but not the earlier ones. The reason I thought there was at least one older son was because there is a grandson on the 1881 with Jane and his name is Charles Edward Leah. I was kinda guessing his father's name was one of his, but it looks like I'm wrong! Not to worry With the 1891 it looks like you have given me a new grandchild to add in somewhere. Also looks as if some of Jane's daughters never married. Thanks very much for your time and trouble with this.
