Could some kind soul do an 1871 census look for a RICKARD family in Plymouth in 1871 with children born in Egloshayle, Cornwall? Specifically Mother Elizabeth born 1836 in Egloshayle and daughters Harriet Catherine born 1867 and Mary Elizabeth born 1864. She will have others born all over the place as her husband was a ship captain. I would be very grateful as I am trying to find if her sons Alfred John and George are still alive then. |hug|

Yes Trish |hug| that is Mary Elizabeth. I heard from the person who is seeking her and it appears that Mother was on a voyage with Father. Brothers Edward and William were with their Uncle Jonathan Lobb in Wadebridge. I have yet to find Harriet & Gertrude in 1871. Perhaps they were on the voyage with their parents as they were 3 & 2.
The Richards family is another one entirely but thanks for them as they may come in useful later :)

I did search for both Harriet but didn't find anyone who came close to matching her description. Same for Alfred John and George. I don't see Gertrude either so I imagine that you're right. [I have a master mariner great grandfather in my family tree who was in the habit of taking his family with him on his long voyages.]
There is another Rickard family born in Egloshayle showing up on the 1871 census -- here's the transcription:

Hanibal, Wallis, Hawken, Selena... the Rickards of Egloshayle had some interesting given names. Also, I just came across an Orlando Earnest Rickard, born in Egloshayle and living with his parents in Piperspool... :)
