Hi, this is my first post here!
I'm trying to find out any information on my great great great grandmother Elizabeth Watkins. Her daughter was Eliza Watkins born 24 June 1844 in Ocorp.
There is no father mentioned on either her birth or marriage certificate so I assume she was illigiamate. On the marriage certificate her mother Elizabeth is a publican (Eliza married my great great grand dad Benjamin Hinton in Garway in 1878) but I can't find anyone who fits this description on any of the censuses.
Does this ring a bell with anyone?

Thank you, Justine

Justine,
Doesn't ring any bells with me, but maybe Elizabeth married after Eliza's birth? I tried a FreeBMD search for Elizabeth WATKINS marriages registered in Hereford (which includes Orcop) between 1844 and 1850. It's not complete but it showed eight of them, one of which could be yours.

You COULD try to match up each Elizabeth WATKINS with her marriage partner and then search for each Elizabeth NEWNAME on the 1851 census in the hope of finding a publican.

Rather you than me though :-)

Addendum:
Just did a quick search of the 1841 census on Ancestry. I found only one Elizabeth WATKINS of about the right age in Orcop (transcribed as Orcrop). Age "25" (i.e. 25-29), living with a 65-69 year old Richard WATKINS, probably her father. Doesn't fit with the family found by Blue Eyes though.

Hi, thanks for the replies. I have tried matching up people in the census but no one really fits. I can only image the occupation on the marriage certificate was a mistake. Watkins seems to be quite a popular name in that area and she could always have lived in a different area to Garway/Orcop...

blue eye, I came to the same conclusion as you with the grandparents- i just can't find a record of them with a daughter called Elizabeth!
