In the 1841 census these families are all living in the same house (they are all related) There are two others living with them that don't seem to fit with these families - Mary Whittingham, 15 and Fanny Mould 15. They both have the lettters F S in the column "Profession, Trade, Employment or Independent Means". Does anyone know what the letters F S mean ?

My guess is Foster Sister, also sometimes abbreviated to Fo Si, or F Si ??

Hi,

F.S. for Female Servant or M.S. For Male Servant were just two of many officially suggested abbreviations for the census form.

I reckon it must be female servant as I've since seen a 40 year old in a family with the same FS.

Thanks all and have a Happy New Year
