Wesleyan Ministers

Can anyone advise me how to find out further information on my great great great grandfather? I have a copy of my great great grandmother and great great grandfathers marriage certificate and it states that William Elliott senior was a Wesleyan Minister. The problem is that I am unsure where the Elliotts were from so don't know where to start searching. I thought the fact that he was a Wesleyan Minister would make my search easier but so far I keep hitting a brick wall. I would be grateful for any suggestions.

You may have tried already, but in the 1881 census on Ancestry you can search by name and occupation.
A search for William Elliot* and "minister" brings up 4 hits.
One of these is a Baptist minister in Somerset, another is a Unitarian minister in Co Durham ...

Have you thought of contacting the relevant Methodist District Archivist. If you are looking at the Manchester/Stockport area, I can give you his address.

Hi Kinni,
If you go to The John Rylands University Library, Manchester. All methodist ministers whether Primitive or Wesleyan minister are listed A - Z so click on the E for Elliott

If he was WILLIAM G.C. Elliott, he was a Wesleyan (It has a W after his name) he was a minister from 1919 to 1959. I wonder does that tie in with you ancester?

If not write to The John Rylands, University Library, Manchester, UK and ask them if they can tell you where he served.
