I'm trying to find records of my Great Grandfather's medals from the Boer War. I have successfully found his medal card for the First World War but as yet the Boer War record is elluding me.

I know that my Great Grandfather, Joseph John William Palmer, joined The Royal Horse Artillery as a Driver at the age of 15. By the time he got to the First World War he was a Serjeant and was made Quater Master Serjeant in the field. He definitely served in the Boer War but his medals were sold by his eldest son so no one in the family any longer knows what they were.

I've tried following some of the searches advocated in other threads but I'm getting no where at present. I was hoping to give this information to my Mother last Christmas but here I am a year later. Do you think there's any chance of making it this year?!

I'd be grateful for any advice - Many Thanks

It depends on whether or not you can get to The National Archives at Kew. Their research guide on campaign medals is here:
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/RdLeaflet.asp?sLeafletID=37

You will need to use document class WO100.
