My great Grandmother was an actress. Her stage name was Bessie NATHAN and her headed notepaper tells us she was a "Comedy and Burlesque Actress". I have found very little, apart from the occasional newspaper cutting, to tell me about her career because most of the archives at the theatrical museum are not indexed and they don't have much *stuff* about the not so famous jobbing actors that worked outside London.
I wonder if anyone has any ideas on how to root out more information without having to go to London.
Ann
Good afternoon ann
Have you tried just putting her name in a search engine like google? i did this and found a little info. There are sites that have lists of biographies.
Good luck

Hi
eBay currently has over 400 Actress postcards up for auction, many for only a few pence (well, lots at a £1) Many are naturally well known, but there are many unknowns there as well. Some ebay sellers specialise in the theatre, not just postcards, but old programs as well.
For an example of a good postcard site, look at

Better still, next time you see a postcard fair advertised, go along and look through the boxes ... you may find "Bessie"
