If anyone has access to the above Censuses, I'd be very grateful for a look-up of two familes living in Wooburn.

In March 1862, Edwin GARDENER married Lydia BARNETT at the Parish Church, both their residences at the time of this marriage are listed as just Wooburn, his Father is named as John, her Father is named as William. Edwin and Lydia left the County in 1863, but his Father was still there in 1881:

John GARDNER Head M Male 71 Horton, Buckingham, Ginger Beer Manfr.
Rebecca GARDNER Wife M Female 70 Wycombe, Buckingham

Dwelling Egghams Green
Census Place Wooburn, Buckingham, England

Thankyou.

Hello Doug,

What a lovely surprise when I checked in this morning (couldn't get back again yesterday :( )

Thankyou so much for looking for me and the success with the Gardener family, you've made my day!

I've filed this thread in my Surname Interests folder, so I'll take you up on your kind offer of trying to find the BARNETT's for me in a couple of months or so. :)

Hi Diane,

No need to wait that long. Once the information is there the images tend to appear soon after. And it is no hardship to search for them - sometimes I just love computers. :)

Doug.

Hi Doug,

May I ask you for a further look-up please? I bought the 1851 Census for the Reg. District of Wycombe and found the BARNETT's on it (yippee!)

Lydia was 9 and living with Parents William and Hannah, and someone called Sarah WARRICK and hubby ...... I wondered if this Sarah was her sister as she was born at Wooburn ..... there's no relationship to Head of household listed for her.

I've just found the hubby in 1881 living at Flackwell Heath, Wycombe and he's a widower, but think Sarah was Lydia's sister, as one of the daughter's in 1881 is called Lydia!

I'm wondering if Sarah was still alive in 1871?

Joseph WARWICK Head W Male 49 Reading, Berkshire, England Carpenter
Lydia WARWICK Daur U Female 23 Flackwell Heath, Buckingham, England Mill Worker
Agnes WARWICK Daur U Female 19 Flackwell Heath, Buckingham, England Mill Worker
Amy WARWICK Daur U Female 16 Flackwell Heath, Buckingham, England Mill Worker
Joseph J. WARWICK Son U Male 14 Flackwell Heath, Buckingham, England Mill Worker

Thanks a lot.

Hello Trish,

Thankyou so much for the look-up, it was very kind of you to do it for me, nice to find that Sarah was still alive then. :)

Hello Doug,

Hey, I've been bumped. :)

:) I had to laugh when I read this ..... don't worry, I'm still waiting for more uploads to Buckinghamshire ...... just to give you the satisfaction of being able to find William BARNETT and wife Hannah in the 1871!

They were living in Bourne End, Wooburn in 1851.

Does the 1891 Census have a search by forename and birthplace? I cannot find Edwin & Lydia Gardener in this census, even though friends have searched their addresses in 1881 and 1901 on their CD's. On these two censuses, their names, ages and birthplaces are up the wall, but they were definitely living in Paddington in 1901.

If a search is possible, could you try for Lydia/Eldia b. 1841-1842 with birthplaces of Wooburn/Wycombe/Buckinghamshire, also Marylebone and Paddington as she states on the 1881 and 1901 censuses respectively please?

Hi Diane,

Ancestry census is searchable by any name.

Unfortunately I drew a blank for you despite trying many permutations.

Sorry,

|shakehead Oh dear ...... looks as though this is going to be my |banghead| as Edwin Gardener is also eluding me on his year of birth! He must have lied about his age on his Marriage Cert (like my Grandfather did) as there are no birth records on 1837.com for the year it should be.

I thought I had found it, but Mythology found out for me that the one I had was the son of Daniel and not John! He is going to try and look Edwin up on the 1861 Census to see how it compares to my 1851, where he is called Edward aged 7! :(

Thankyou so much for looking for me Doug.

Hi Diane,

Not a problem. I presume that you don't know of any children that would have been present in 1871 that I could search under?

Diane Grant-Salmon
22-11-2004, 10:46 AM
Hi Doug,

Silly me ..... forgot about them! :o There is supposed to be James GARDENER b. 1862 Holloway, John b. 1864 Marylebone and Agnes Mary who is the only one I bought the birth cert for.

Agnes Mary b. 29 Dec 1863 at 1 Hardington Place, Marylebone.

Thankyou.

Hi Diane,

OK, have just checked 1871 again for John and still not available.

I have also checked for the kids of Edwin in 1871 and 1891 and I have come to the conclusion you have ghostly connections.

I am sure they will appear (and may even be there now) but I can find nothiing to positively identify or even remotely identify them based on what we have to date. There are possibilities of course but all have wrong places of birth and the London ones are not with the parents that have names that even come close. I checked under both Gardner and Gardener.

Sorry,

Hi Michael,

Sorry for the delay ..... we had visitors! :)

Edwin Gardener is the Gt. Grandfather of my sister-in-law, Lena Forrest, nee Evans. My brother lost interest in researching her family, when he hit obstacles on both lines |banghead| ....... so he handed them over to me. I managed to make terrific progress with the Evans line, with the help of a friend but not as much with the Gardener's! :(

Edwin married Lydia BARNETT on the 29 Mar 1862 Wooburn Parish Church, the Wedding Witnesses were John WAPSHOTT & Mary ROSE.

Edwin died 04 Nov 1918 Paddington.

In my file, I have nine children altogether for John and Rebecca, all showing as unmarried except for Edwin! Which one of the sons are you descended from? William, Thomas, Henry, James, Peter or Joseph?

I don't really know  John did have a son called Henry, who was born in 1841. In the 1881 Census (same year as the one for John), Henry was still living in Wooburn, Buckinghamshire, but his occupation is Master Baker.
