Rutter(s) in Iver

I am trying to find roots of some Rutters born in Iver.

James (b. Iver 1818) married Sarah Messam (of Baslidon, Berks) in 1837, at Fulmer, Bucks (1871 census, IGI). They had children James (b. 1839 Iver), George (b. 1840 Iver), Charles (b.1845 Iver) and Alfred and Sarah Ann (b.1853, 1855, both in Hayes).

At 1871 the older James Rutter operated the Railway Arms pub at Botwell, Hayes. The younger James Rutter went on to operate the North Pole pub in Kensington aroung 1880. George Rutter multiplied and went to Glamorgan. Charles Rutter, who was my great grandfather died in Uxbridge in 1871, and the ten children of his only child, my grandfather Charles Edwin Rutter (b.1870 Notting Hill), are now all dead.

I have no idea how to find the father of the James Rutter born 1818 in Iver. I've looked through Rutters in the 1851 Buckinghamshire census but I can't find any real clues, nor in on-line parish registers. Any ideas??

Some years ago, someone associated with the Buckinghamshire Family History Society was looking for Rutters from Iver, but I don't know who it was.

Follow up: I ordered the Iver Bishops' transcripts from the local Family History Centre of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) on microfilm, and looked through it. I found my James Rutter, born at Love Green in Iver in 1817, and his parents, etc. etc.
Is there anyone else out there who traces their lineage from Love Green?

The only reason I'm getting in touch with you is that I went to school with a Rutter, but in those days we only called boys by their surname, so I cannot tell you his Christian name. This was in the 60's at Townmead school now defunct, but the catchment area included parts of Bucks so your Rutter family was probably part of this chap's family.All I can recall of the chap was that he seemed a bit fat, not many of us were fat then, we all walked to school or rode bikes it was a long way for many of us. George Rutter was my great great grandfather. He went to Wales during the time when the Welsh coalfieds were being developed and he was involved with the construction buisness, mainly in Barry, Glamorgan. Barry grew rapidly from about 1880 to 1910 as a port to export coal, because the area needed greater capacity. When George died he was buried in Hayes; some years ago when I was working in the area I went to the churchyard in Hayes and saw the gravestone. More recently I took my son there and couldn't find it, but I did see the grave of Charles Rutter who I assumed to be a relative. Strange that they originated in Iver, one of my grandmother's best friends lived there even though she herself lived her entlamorgan. i have found three rutter families living around iver high street in 1801.

two rutter families were living in the thorney district.

i also have a copy of the 1821 census if information is still required please email.

I have William Rutter b 1690, wife Sarah (Lilly) and their 4 children and 9 Grandchildren, 1735-1755

Hi Colin - I have the Rutter Family on Tree (which I display on Genes Reunited.
I can'y exactly solve your problem right now but I can assist with going back further - there will just be a gap in the middle.
I go back to (1) James Rutter b abt 1540 in Datchet, Bucks. His decsendants are as follows.
(2) Thomas Rutter b 1580 in Datchet, (3) Thomas Rutter b 1621 in Datchet, (4) William Rutter b 1658 in Datchet, (5) William Rutter b 1689 in Datchet (6) Elizabeth Rutter b 1715 in Iver, Bucks.

So we can see that the Rutters were established for many generations in Datchet before moving to Iver sometime between 1689 and 1715.

Elizabeth Rutter married my 5xG Grandfather, Charles Bennett in Iver on 20/04/1769.

For each of the previous Rutters I have mentioned prior to Elizabeth I have their siblings as well.
Elizabeths siblings were Sarah b 1717, William b 1719 and John b 1722.
From William and John until your James b 1818 is the gap we need to join.

I am in Australia so it is a little difficult for me to search from here for anything not on the internet. I know this doesn't solve your problem, but at least we know we have the same family and we are both working on it.
