This is not really in my research at the moment but just an interesting diversion.
I have a Will that suggests that a sister of my gggg grandfather married a Beckingsale and they had a son in Salisbury Wiltshire, whom they named William Jefferies Beckingsale.
He had a son in 1813 also called William Jefferies Beckingsale.
By 1871 he was a very successful solicitor and living at Fairlee House, Ryde Road, Whippingham on the Isle of Wight.
I have found a picture of the house on an IOW website, from around 1850.
Does anyone with any local knowledge know if the house is still there. I've done a bit of checking on the internet but cant tell for sure. Obviously could contact a local history society or the local council but if anyone out there know that would be good.
One of my sisters has just moved to IOW so could incorporate a visit.
