Why, oh why is it so much easier to find information about ancestors not in your direct line? You can bet that the ancestor you really want to find was never officially married and not recorded as baptised, but his/her cousin/uncle/aunt/niece/nephew is on every census, has useful relatives living with them and has a record on the LDS, as well as several other people researching them. |banghead|

Unfortunately, that's the way the cookie crumbles ..... from someone else who has the same problem. ;)

Davran....as Diane says....you are not alone!! I have exactly the same problem, and then some! Sigh!!.....:(

Keep trucking though...when you finally do get a break, it's fantastic!

I have similar problems with some of mine too. I just carry on searching as I am convinced that one day I will find them.

I also have some very interesting people in my tree eg a convict transported to Australia, which are not my direct ancestors.

Oooh, yes! Especially when you think "this one should be easy, such an uncommon forename" and then you find that there are many, with similar birth years and even wives with similar names, plus older and younger ones, scattered all over the county and country.

Then one day you find the 'key' that lets you sort them out. Fathers and sons, uncles and cousins and nephews all!

Key... Where's the key? no one told me about a key!! I'm too busy looking at brooms, ironing boards, floral gums, love hearts, entermered spinsters, missing windows, spam, beautiful pictures and a host of other things I never thought of.
Relatives, what's them? I'm having too much fun on the forum at the moment. It's like a roller coaster ride I never know what next... |wave|

I suspect that being in the sunny Algarve, you may not know of this programme, but as David Frost says on `Through the Keyhole' "the clues are there" ! I guess we just have to look for them, and eventually we find the key to the right door. :)

PS: I should have said, with a little help from our friends! |hug|

Oh, I haven't given up at all...I just wish it was a little easier at times!

At the moment I think I have a gremlin trying to get at me though. I've just sent for a death certificate and been sent completely the wrong one, which arrived today. I gave the correct GRO reference (from the image), but my Elizabeth Turner suddenly turned into Ann Caveley, who happens to be on the same page! Poor woman died of sanguineous apoplexy 38 hours, aged 70. Interesting, but not what I wanted to know!

I've written to complain and, hopefully, they'll send me the right one.

Meanwhile, I think I'll carry on looking at the Anthonys, who aren't related by blood, but who are quite easy to follow. ;)[/QUOTE]

I have a great grandfather who wasn't born, didn't leave England, didn't arrive in Australia but managed to marry my great grandmother conceive my grandmother and her brother and sisters so my grandmother could marry and conceive my mother who in her turn married and conceived me to carry on conceiving for 2 more generations. See it's easy. And all this with the help of a family Bible to start. Wow. Who said the phantom was a comic.

He will not beat me!!!!!

Hi Deidre,

go right down the bottom of the page where it says smilies are on or off. Click on the link for smilies and you can copy and paste them into your message or type the relevant text. OR, go to your user profile and select edit options and scroll down until you get to the option of type of reply mode.
You must have the basic one if you haven't got smilies bouncing around to the right of your reply box when composing a message. I believe that is the middle option, then there is another WYSIWYG and it has a little smilie icon at the top of the reply text box.

Clear as mud :D

Deirdre,
Now I really am confused
|Quote|: ok Mutley you uded intermered with spinsters.....what did you find out that I missed???????

Originally in your 'Help with reading a will' thread you said:
"Later he mentions other daughters with their maiden names and refers to them as entermered to.... "

I assume they were not married and therefore spinsters?

I think, without checking, it ended up just as confusing as it started with a possibility of engaged, handed over by contract no formal marriage, or someone who will be left nameless (lol) suggested living in the mire.

inter = between, among, mutually
mere = only, not more than, nothing but

contracted and living with but not married
