Can anyone help me with a look up please?

I can't get access to the 1841 Census at the moment, and try to do most of the searching myself, but it would help me enormously if I could find out if my gt.gt. grandfather's mother was in Winslow at this time.

I am looking for any female with the surname of JARVIS. I don't know how old she would be, but her son John was born illegitimately in 1823 in Dunton. Dunton PRs don't have him so I can't find out his mother's name from there. He was in the Army in 1842 when he married and aged 19, so I doubt he would show up in Winslow. I am awaiting fiche of Settlements, Removals etc. from Bucks. FHS as I have an entry from Winslow 1834 where application was made for money for John Jarvis. He was shown as living in Dunton, which I find rather strange, if his mother was in the Workhouse....would he have lived on his own aged 11?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me in this frustrating line.

I can only find one Jarvis (of either sex) in Winslow in 1841 and that's Rebecca Jarvis, 15, FS, Yes...she's working at a school in Sheep Street. Ref is HO/107/51/15

Maybe your John Jarvis' sister???

Hello Jocelyn,

Sorry not to have acknowledged your reply sooner, but just back from a few days away!

That was really kind of you to look that up for me.....but...`if' she was John's sister, then she would probably have been illegitimate also! I feel that this is another family of Jarvis, but will keep this record handy...just in case!! I have been hoping to find his mother, but not knowing her christian name, is like looking for a needle in a haystack!! John definately appears to have taken his mother's surname, but his father has been acknowledged as John Green.

Thanks again. :)
