Good morning!

I'm here to look for clues about my families name, I know they migrated from the UK back in the late 1700's as we still have the family bible which has the break down but it doesn't go into any detail past the American Civil War. Where could I find some information about the Lee or Hixson family, or if that's even a British last name? Looks like ya'll got a nicely laid out forum here! Thanks

Hi
a quick search on Ancestry found this:
A Dictionary Of English & Welsh Surnames;
Hixson, Hixon - "the son of Richard"; for Hickson, of which both are variants.

There were examples from 1500's onwards.

There are families with the Hixson name in all the census from 1851 to the 1901.
Lee is still a very common name, 33 entries in the above dictionary

Hi Annie,
I'm Zeno and although I only joined the site today,I read your post and it interested me considerably. I was in the army in the 1960s and we had an american officer attached to us, his name was Captain Pete Hixon. Any relation? We (The Regiment) hold a reunion every year and have mentioned him a few times. I'd be obliged if you'd let me know. Thanks Zeno
