I'm researching the Gillies family. Robert was born abt 1816 in Paisley. As far as I know the church records were destroyed.
His wife was Margaret Gardiner, she was born 6 Apr 1818 in Paisley. They married in 1839 and moved to New Zealand in 1847.
At least three of their children were born in Scotland, these children were Robert, Mary and John, also possibly another daughter, Margaret was born before they sailed, but I think she died on the voyage.
Robert was suffering from turberculosis and died in NZ in 1854.
would love to hear from anyone who is familiar with this name in scotland, I would love to go further back.
