Norfolk Record Office is making an appeal for doantions to prevent an important archive from being exported, see:
http://archives.norfolk.gov.uk/nrogunn.htm
The papers relate to Rev.William GUNN who lived at Irstead and Smallburgh in the 18th century.
If you have an interest in this part of Norfolk and can help, please do so.

"If you have an interest in this part of Norfolk"
Or even if you don't. I am sick and tired of finding that *English* records that I want to refer to have been hoovered up by the Land of Many Dollars and are now sat in some University over there - I have no interest in the Reverend William Gunn, but I'll send NRO a few quid on principle.

The Gunn papers are now safely lodged with the Norfolk Record Office.

Good. :)
And thanks for letting us know, Pam - I didn't give an address in case they were tempted to waste postage on "Thank you" notes, just sent the cheque off with a note which basically said "If you end up with too much, put it towards something else useful", and as Norfolk is not my particular interest, hadn't thought to go back to the site later to see how they'd got on.

I'm please.d to see a happy ending.
............ and if any other repository is in dire need of funds to keep a valuable archive perhaps someone could let us know as Geoffers did here.
