My grandfathe was called Frederick Howard Burton he was born 7th January 1898 to John Frederick Burton and Selina Burton (Lees). I found his marriage to Selina Ellen Lees in 1894 and his father is marked down as John Burton. Now in 1871 a John Burton and his wife Emma had a child John F Burton born Aston Birmingham 1870 but I can't find a birth record for a John Frederick Burton born in that area. Just in case you find the John Frederick Burton born in Salford Manchester according to the 1871 census his father was Frederick Burton.

I found several instances where the given names are reversed. I was talking witha chap yesterday who is known as Bob but was christened Alistair Robert. didn't like Alistair as a name.
