My wife has a GGGGGrandfather Richard Seys PRYCE married to Edith BLEBY b 1775 Winchcomb at Winchcomb 13 Nov 1796 and his Marriage allegation gives his age as over 25 yrs[pre 1771] and an Officer of the Excise. His signature is very bold! A son John Seys PRYCE b1796 Winchcomb married Anne BLEBY b 1804 Winchcomb at Stroud 1826.

The 1851 Glamorgan Census at Pontardulais show a Richard S PRYCE Unm.[?W,der] age 82yrs Pauper[Excise Officer] b Llanedy, CMN in the Glynllwchwr Parcel,Enum Dist 4B, Piece 2465 Folio 159.

The LDS I.G.I Batch C099401, Source Call No. 0105162, for Llanedy gives a RICHARD SAY chr 12 Jan 1769, Father SEYS RICHARD PRICE and Mother JANE. This is where the Patronymics comes in as I cannot decide whether Richard SAY is his name or whether his father is Richard Seys PRICE and Mother Jane o826.

A chance someone has the actual Parish Regs and can check would be helpful also whether Richard Seys PRYCE b 1769 is in the 1841 Glamorgan or Carmarthenshire Census?
Any replies would be grateful.
Michael and Penny.

I think I may have found your Richard Seys Pryce in 1841.

On the census form it clearly has Seys as the middle name but crossed out.

It's at the Royal Oak, Llan-non, Llanedy, Carmarthenshire.
The census record is HO 107/1379/1.
He seems to be staying with a relative who is a publican:
Richard PRYCE, 35, Publican, born in Carmarthenshire
Hanah PRYCE, 30, born in Carmarthenshire
Sarah PRYCE, 11, born in Carmarthenshire
Mary PRYCE, 8, born in Carmarthenshire
Rebecca PRYCE, 5, born in Carmarthenshire
Elizabeth PRYCE, 1, born in Carmarthenshire
Anne JONES, 15, female servant, born in Carmarthenshire
Richard (Seys) PRYCE, 65, schoolmaster, born in Carmarthenshire

Hope this helps,
Pat English (often known as Pat Sais/Seys, as that means "English" in Welsh)

Hello Pat
Many thanks for your reply and confirming the whereabouts of Richard in the 1841 census. We had been told this from another source and since then have found his parents Richard PRYCE JP b1736 Boverton, Llantwit Major, GLAM. and wife Jane VAUGHAN b Knighton, RAD. living at Plas Newydd, Llanedy, CMN, where Richard Seys PRYCE was b 1769. He died 13th Aug 1855 at Pontardulais, GLAM.
Richard PRYCE JP parents were Lewis PRICE b 1712 Llanedy, d 1744 Hotwells, and Elizabeth SEYS b c1703, Boverton Castle, GLAM, widow of Evan SEYS who d 1733, and he was likely from Caerleon, MON. When Lewis died she remarried for the third time to James BLACK of Hereford.
Elizabeth SEYS was daughter of Richard SEYS b 1639, d 1714 Boverton Castle, Llantwit Major, GLAM and Wenllian ????, this his second marriage. Richard SEYS was son of Evan SEYS b 1604, d 1684 and Margaret BRIDGES b 1608, Boverton Castle, Llantwit Major, GLAM.
