I realise that there has already been discussion in this forum over my great-great-grandfather, Rudd Turner and the murder of his second wife and child. Indeed other websites also carry information about him. My problem is that I am trying to trace the line of his first wife Eleanor, who is my progenitor, but am unable to trace her maiden name. Even her gravestone does not carry it. If anyone can help me with her family name I shall be most grateful.

David, my information, according to a transcript in the County Records Office in Norwich, was that Rudd Turner's first marriage was to Elizabeth Turner (not Eleanor) on 12th August 1810. She is stated as being single of the parish of Edingthorpe. Now her maiden name could have been Turner or that could be a transcription slip (I haven't checked the East Ruston PR). Their children were all baptised as sons/daughters of John and Elizabeth.
Their son John Rudd Turner married Eleanor Susanna Brown in 1840.
My wife is descended from JR Turner/Eleanor through their daughter Elizabeth who married James Francis Horner in 1869. We would be interested to know your line of descent.
Regards
Geoff

Apologies for slip; Rudd & Elizabeth's children were of course baptised as sons/daughters of Rudd and Elizabeth.

Thank you to all of you. You've given me a massive amount of help.
My connection is through my mother, Margaret Daisy Turner, formerly of Stalham Green. Her father, Ernest Albert Turner, was a Stalham builder. His father, Walter Turner, was one of John Rudd Turner's sons.

Thank you David. I have a note that Ernest Albert was born 18/03/1888 in Stalham. To enable me complete his boxes on my programme, would you mind supplying me with dates/places for his death and marriage, and who he married.
Doubtless you have all info on the Turners but if there is anything you want to know, please ask either myself or Richard.
Regards
Geoff Ford.
Geoffers - (I haven't been called that since I was at school) many thanks for your information.

Ernest Albert Turner ,as you note, was born in 1888, the son of Walter. Like his father and two brothers, William and Herbert, Ernest trained as a carpenter and wheelwright. He married Mabel Phoebe Read, the daughter of William Read, a naval seaman, at Sutton in 1909. They had three children, Herbert William born 1910, Leonard Victor, born 1911 and my mother, Margaret Daisy, born 1913. Ernest died in the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital in 1950 and his wife Mabel in King's Lynn in 1969.
If there is any more that I can tell you please let me know.

Thank you David. Since you ask, if you have details of Ernest Albert's brothers and sisters I would be pleased to have them. I have their names and census details up to 1901, giving me approximate birth dates etc., but nothing else.

I only have birth dates of Ernest's siblings I am afraid. They were Alice born 1872 at Clapham, Surrey; Edith born 1875 at Clapham; William born 1873 at Clapham and Herbert born 1879 at Stalham Green.

Quite a few of John Rudd Turner's children (Walter, Jane, Sarah & William) turn up in Clapham from 1870s onward, some staying on, some not. Presumably they followed their sister Elizabeth and her husband James Horner to see if a better living might be obtained in the smoke. Sensibly Walter and Jane returned to Norfolk.
