I just had to Share this!

Years ago I placed an add in the Family Tree Magazine, from which I was contacted by a Cousin of My Fathers who lived in New Zealand!

To cut a Long story, I ended up Meeting Him & All His Siblings at a Family Gathering in Cheshire! (They had come from All round the World!)

I kept in touch with My 2nd Cousin by snail mail, till I went online, then we used email to keep in touch!

Through this contact I was able to Add 100+ names to My Tree at a Stroke!

After this I registered My Family Interests on Various Websites (in the Hope of making further Contacts with Lost Relatives!)

The other day I received a mail (through an account I set up Years ago) from the wife of one of the relatives that My NZ contact had told me about.

Firstly, I had Totally Forgotten about the Post I had made (using the old email account), also the relative that contacted Me had moved Halfway around the World since I had placed their details in My Files!(so I would have probably Never Found Them!)

Also, this relative (just starting their Family Research) has Discovered a Folder containing loads of Certificates, Ships Logs & etc which (Should?) lead to Us Adding at least 1 (maybe 2 or 3) Generations to Our Tree!

I am Really Glad I Did'nt Delete that Old email Account Off My Computer!

I only started my research 1 month ago. I put my ancestors details on Lost Cousins yesterday and within an hour a lady whose grandfather was my great grandfather's brother had contacted me. We obviously cross-referenced to make sure we had our facts right and she sent me pics of the house they lived in in 1881! I thought I had a very small family...just 1 sister and my dad is an only child so not many uncles etc. It's amazing that with the click of a button, I've met people I didn't know existed with whom I share the same genes. She's been doing her research for ages so I can't wait til she sends me what she has done. Isn't technology the most wonderful thing!

Looby42.

That's whats so great about doing Family History Research (always meeting New People & finding out about New places).

P.S.

I had a similar bit of Luck (after many years searching & nearly giving up), I was contacted by a distant relative (who is a more direct decendant of the line I was tracing) He not only comfirmed some names/Dates I had 'pencilled in' on Our Tree but also filled in some gaps & sent me a Picture of the Farm where they lived in 1840.

Happy Hunting!

I've had similar luck using genes reunited. Being a beginner at this I put in my family tree and when I got some "hot matches" contacted one who had 4 matches to my tree. It turns out he is descendant of my great grandmother's brother and as he has been doing his research for 10 years was able to fill me in on some details. We were both stuck on one particular relative but by working together we think we may have solved some of the problems and got a bit further with her history.

Anna.

I have had similar contacts through Genes, I also have connected with 4-5 2nd Cousins through this Forum:
liverpool-genealogy. Where between us we have managed to Add a Few more names (& 1 or 2 more Generations) to Our Trees!
