Hi,

I see this thread has been on here for over a year. Nothing daunted, this might help.

Most of the railway records are held at the National Archives at Kew. There is an excellent guide, published by Federation of Family History Societies, called "Was Your Grandfather a Railwayman?" by Tom Richards.

Good luck.

Was he with the Railways ?

You dont need to be employed by the Railways to be classified as an engine driver.

My father looked after and operated large engines in a Power Station. He was an engine driver. My uncle worked in the engine room of a Brewery. He was an engine driver.
