I am trying to find the identity of the father of William George Hicks, first listed on the 1851 census (St Teath), birthplace given as Brit Subj born Overseas US. Later given in 1881, as Illinois.
Mother Mary, listed as Mary Prout in 1841 and Mary Hicks, widow, in 1851. I cannot find a Marriage record for her in the BMD.
I would appreciate any advice, help or information, you are able to give me.

Hi Trudi
The marriage certificate of William George Hicks will give the name & occupation of his father. On www.freebmd.org.uk (http://www.freebmd.org.uk/) , the marriage is listed of William George Hicks, September quarter 1868, Bodmin registration district, volume 5c page 103. On the same page is listed Elizabeth Ann Prout. These are the GRO details (General Register Office) .You can get a copyof the certificate via the government website at www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificate (http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificate)
Also from the BMD site, marriage of Mary Prout, September quarter 1845, Camelford, volume 9 page 69. Also on page is George Hicks.

The Camelford information Wirral has noted would seem promising. St Teath is a stones throw from Camelford, which would be the nearest town.
