The story in my family goes that George Henry Clare born in Tipton, Staffordshire, England,in Sep 1876, emigrated to Canada, exact date and destination unknown. Cannot find him on 1901 census in England. His wife may have been Annie, and believe his daughter was Bertha.

Don't know if you are still looking for this chap...but if you look on ArchiviaNet (http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/index-e.html) you will find WW1 records:

CLARE , GEORGE HENRY 13/09/1877 195040 RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 1720 - 15

He was born in Tipton -though wife was Sarah.

Take a look cos you can see the first 2 pages of his attestation papers!
