I am researching the Glover family who lived in the St Mabyn & St Kew area in the second half of the 1800s - early 1900s.
I would love to hear from anyone else researching this family.

Hello Sue
I know it is a couple of years since you posted this message and I wondered if you could help me with my 'Glover'. I've been trying to find my grandfather - William John Glover for more than 12 years without success. All I have is a marriage certificate and have exhausted all information contained on it.

The marriage took place at St Peters Church, Brighton 1st June 1920 between Helen Dorothy Robinson and William John Glover (by Banns). He was aged 20 an Indoor Servant at St Johns Wood, London. His father John was also a servant and deceased. One of the witnesses was Uncle to the bride but no idea of the other. Grandmother Helen remarried in 1926 as a widow but I have since discovered that both her parents committed bigamy and I've no doubt that she could have done the same! I haven't been able to find a death between 1920-1926 for William John Glover and as for the births about 1900 there are several but which one could he be? Even the 1901 census is of no help. One thing I did forget to mention = after the ceremony William John left the church and was never seen again - my father arrived a few weeks later!

Now you can see why I'm grasping at straws! and maybe one day someone like yourself will be able to make a connection.

JudithDear Judith,
The only couple still in St Mabyn in 1891 are Henry Glover and his second wife Ellen Adams who were married in 1858 in Bideford, Devon. He is buried in St Mabyn in 1909 and she in 1893. Both of them were born in Devon and they came to St Mabyn via Clovelly and Morwenstow. He has a son John born in 1868 who MAY be a candidate for the Father of your William John if you get my drift.

I haven't come across a William John Glover in my researches I'm afraid.

The only William in my family born c.1900 was William Samuel James Glover born in St Kew in 1899, he married Annie Hawke in 1921.

Hi Sue,

If you are trying to locate a specific person, let me know and I will have a look at the records when I am back at the CRO next week.
I know you made the offer a long time ago but if it's still open I'm particularly interested in finding the burials of:
Mary Glover died 27 May 1892 aged 62
Ellen Glover died 17 May 1893 age 51
George Glover died 24 October 1894 (died in Bodmin workhouse so may well not be in St Mabyn)
Henry Glover died 19 October 1909 aged 68

TIA
Sue

Thanks for that,
I'll keep my fingers crossed, members of this family have a horrible habit of not being buried where you'd expect them to be.
