I've got a Charles Crawford from Montreal born roughly 1870, father Robert, mother Mary Gordon. Not sure if that falls into your line or not.

Other siblings include: Hugh John (husband of Mary Julia Dancey), Burt and Mabel.

Hi Charles:

Do you think John was a soldier when he was in Canada? I was also wondering if you had John's wife's full (maiden) name.

Both Drouin and BAnQ are good sources for the record you are seeking, but I couldn't find anyone of that name born around 1816 except for one possibility where the father was a soldier.

Drouin is available on Ancestry and the BAnQ website is here:
http://www.banq.qc.ca/portal/dt/genealogie/inst_recherche_ligne/inst_recherche_ligne.jsp

If you go to the bottom of the screen you'll see a search facility for Non-Catholic baptisms in the Montreal area for 1766 to 1835.
