A distant cousin in America has been searching for his 3rd great grandfather's family, without much sucess. The person he is trying to trace is Thomas Dickenson or various spellings. Born abt Oct 1813 in the village of Ryther, which we believe is near Tadcaster Yorkshire. He died between Oct 1885 and 1891 in Islington London. Thomas married Mary Ann Fryer abt 9/12/1838 in Kippax Yorkshire. She was believed to have been born about 1817 in Hull Yorkshire and died 10/29/1885 in London. Her father's name was William. Possible parents for Thomas MAY HAVE BEEN marmaduke Dickinson and Sarah Oldfield, but not certain. Any help would be gratefully appreciated

"Born abt Oct 1813 in the village of Ryther"

In that case, I believe that you or your cousin needs to consult the Ryther parish registers.

"Thomas married Mary Ann Fryer abt 9/12/1838 in Kippax Yorkshire"

This is not a good way to show dates. Is it 9 December or 12 September?

1838 is covered by civil registration so there should be a marriage certificate and there should be no "abt" involved. Do you or your cousin have the certificate? What name is shown as Thomas Dickenson's father?

I stand corrected. I copied message exactly as sent to me by American cousin, should have checked as American dates are sometimes shown differently from British. I will advise said cousin to check parish records as stated. Thank you for taking the time to correct my mistakes. Regards Maeve

The following was received by me yesterday.
"I am descended from William Dickenson born 26th January1841.He married Emily Ann Rhodes 25th December 1862, she was born 25 September 1840. They moved to Hearts Content Newfoundland on 27th July1866, where he was an electrician for the telegraph company. I have the census records you described. I have been trying to find birth record for William and early information on Thomas, his father. I am really grateful for your efforts."

The message was from American cousin thanking all who are trying to help search for his relatives.
