View Full Version : Missing birth.

I am hoping someone will be able to help me. I am trying to find a birth listing for my great grandmother. Her name was Violena Howard and she was born in 1882-1884. I have found her on the census in 1901 and it gives her place of birth as being Leverton. I have been unable to find a birth listing for her at all. I have her marriage and death certificates, which gives her father as being John Howard, Captain, deceased( in 1909) but i have so far been unable to trace him.The only other clue i have is that Violena is mentioned in the Boston Workhouse minutes, book 12, under the 22nd June 1889, where her age is given as 6.Can anyone give me any ideas as to where to look next? i'd be grateful for any help.

Do I read into that that you have personally looked through the Boston Guardians files and that was all you found?
What about the admission & discharge registers, the schools registers, the register of children boarded out etc etc (if they've survived)? The births register might also be worth looking at (again, if it's survived).

thanks for your suggestions Peter. I haven't yet looked at the birth records etc for the workhouse, but i will look into it.
