Is anybody else researching the same family? Sarah remarried a John Langley after the death of William Halliday.

I would love to find the marriage information for Joseph Youds and Catherine of Rhydland, Wales. I have an IGI that fits, but no real evidence.

Any hints on where to go to find that marriage? I live in Dubai, but will have 2 weeks in the UK in early July to try to do some research.....

Hi Sally

I think there may be more than one Sarah Youds here. In the 1861 census there is a Sarah (30?, age hard to read, born Irby) who is married to William Halliday (44, born Great Meols), living with him & daughters Sarah 6 & Ellen 3 (both born Great Meols) at Great Meols. In the same census there is an unmarried Sarah Youds (35, born Neston), who is living with her parents Joseph & Catherine in Neston.
In the 1851 census, Sarah Halliday is living with William at Great Meoles & gives her place of birth as Woodchurch. www.cheshirebmd.org.uk (http://www.cheshirebmd.org.uk) lists the marriage of William Holliday & Sarah Youds in 1845 at Holy Cross, Woodchurch.

Your Sarah Youds is probably the daughter of Robert. From the 1851 census:

Ho107/2174 folio 111, page 14, Irby, Woodchurch parish, Cheshire
Robert Youds, head, M, 60 Ag lab, born Cheshire, West Kirby
Mary Youds, wife, M, 60, Cheshire, West Kirby
Robert Youds, son, U, 29, Ag lab, Cheshire, Irby
Ann Halliday, grand-dau, 6, Cheshire, Irby

Do you have copies of the marriage certificates for Sarah to William Halliday & to John Langley?

I think you have hit the nail on the head!

Excellent, so Robert Youds, not Joseph Youds. I'm glad you put me right on that one before I went searching for marriage information. Ann Halliday makes it pretty convincing.

No, I don't have the marriage certificate yet, I have the information ready to send off as soon as I hit English soil.

Cheshire Marriage indexes for the years: 1845
YOUDS Sarah HOLLIDAY William Woodchurch, Holy Cross Wirral BK21/1/31

The IGI has many errors with this family - the children from her first marriage are all listed with John Langley as the father - unless the person who provided the data knew something scandalous!

Thanks so much for your time and effort,
Cheers,
Sally

Hi Sally

Hang on for a little before ordering the marriage certificate. I'm taking a walk up to Wallasey library after tea & will see if they have any info. The marriage of Sarah Halliday & John Langley was in 1876 at St Nicholas, Liverpool, but Liverpool library is on its annual 2 week shut-down for maintenance, so it is not possible to view the church registers there at the moment.

That would be superb - I just checked Bertram Merrell - no Robert Youds at all on there.

I travel to England next Tuesday, so I am in no hurry to send anything off. I am just heading into ancestry for a further check on the Youds in Irby....

Thanks again,
Sally

Hi Sally

As my car is working again (blinking indicators - or rather not!), I managed to go to both Wallasey & Birkenhead libraries. Wallasey has a number of booklets of transcriptions of gravestones from local graveyards on the Wirral, courtesy of West Kirby & Wallasey Groups Family History Societies. They have done the hard work, tramping round the cemeteries. I have just handwritten out the YOUDS & HALLIDAY data (nb only found one HALLIDAY) from Holy Cross, Woodchurch & St Batholomew, Thurstaston. These cover 3 pages of A4 & as I am not a fast typist I can send you a photo of my notes if you want them. Can also send the copy of the marriage (to William Holliday in 1845 at Holy Cross, Woodchurch) & baptism of Sarah Youds (in 1827 at St Bartholomew, Thurstaston).

That is fantastic - I'd love a copy / photo / whatever of anything you have found. You are so kind!

You can send anything to my "online" email address - sallyedwards@hotmail.com

I really don't know what to say - you have saved me a big journey and lots of time. I'm rendered speechless (almost!)

Many, many, many thanks,
Sally
