Hello Everyone

I have a stumbling block the size of the great wall. The difficulty starts with/is William Scrivens.

· Name: William SCRIVENS
· Given Name: William
· Surname: SCRIVENS
· Sex: M
· Birth: 15 APR 1849 possibly in Westminster, England?
(We were always told he was the son of a shipping family and he was born on the Atlantic or the high seas. I think GG-Grandpa Will liked to tell GGGBig stories. Then I got his death certificate. It stated he was born on a steamer on the Atlantic Ocean. I do keep in mind that the information was provided by someone else).
He came to the United States on 20 September of 1886 with his son Alfred Charles Scrivens (aka AC Scrivens). AC's mother's maiden name was Whitman.

I have no clue who his parents, his wife’s parents, any of their siblings, or any possible other children in England may have been.

If anyone can help me solve this puzzle I would really appreciate it.
