I am looking for information on the birth of Harriett Purdie/Purdy B.1851 In St Faith's. I have a Harriett on one census who is right age and place of birth with parents James and Sarah. I can't find them on any other census. However, after Harriett married she was living two doors away from a William and Sarah Purdie (on another census) who fit in all details but fathers name. I have tried BMD and Family Search but nothing there. If anyone has access to records that show the names of Harrietts parents I would be eternally grateful.

The question is, which St.Fays (St.Faiths)? There are several, Newton St.Faiths is actually in the parish of Horsham St.Faiths, but you do sometimes see birthplaces recorded as either..
The 1851 census may help in showing:
HO107/1811 f172 p18
Back Street, Horsham St.Faiths
James PURDY, hd, mar, 29, sheppherd, bn (.....?), Nfk
Sarah PURDY, wf, mar, 26, bn St Faiths
James PURDY, son, 6, scholar, bn St Faiths
William PURDY, son, 4, bn St Faiths
Eliza PURDY, dau, 2, bn St Faiths
Whereabouts do you have your Harriet living in later census returns? When she married, who were the witnesses to her marriage?

I have them on the 1861 census Living in Greenwich. Harriett married a Robert Hutcheson I don't have the names of witnesses. The Perdies are listed as born St Faiths, Norwich on census (for mother and children) father has place of birth as Ely. I have Harriett on 1871 census married to Robert. A couple of doors away are a Perdie family, the details fit for mother and son but the father is now William (was James)and place of birth is St Faith's not Ely.

I started to spell the name wrong in my last reply! Purdies are getting to me, it is Purdie not Perdie. Time for bed I think. :-)

That sounds like you don't have her marriage certificate. I would urge you to obtain this as the information it contains will confirm if you are on the right track and also provide potentially useful information - e.g. witnesses
If your Harriett's birth was not registered, you will have to use parish records to confirm when she was baptised. For this you will need to use the Norfolk Record Office - they have a good web-site http://archives.norfolk.gov.uk/nroindex.htm which you should browse to see what records they hold.
I've got the ATs for Horsham, which extend up to 1811-12, but there is no record of PURDY/PURDEY/PURDAY/PURDIE in them from 1790-1811, so possibly the family came from another parish and moved to Horsham, or possibly the spelling of the name has corrupted over time.

Looks like its another one on the back burner. I need so many certificates at the moment going to make a list and prioritise. I am reasonably sure I have the right Harriet as I found the marriage listed and in the area they were living in in London. It's her father that's the main problem. I had checked the site you posted but couldn't find them there. Thanks for your input
