I have ancestors in Essex by the name of Wasket and variants. I am told that the name derives from 'Gascon' plus a diminutive (the Norman G being pronounced W). The first mention is in the 1274 Rotuli Hundredorum of High Wood near Writtle. Is there any way I can find out more about these people, who I presume came over from Gascony at the time of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine?
