Hi,
I am one of the thousands of Canadian army war-babies that are still looking to find a father that came to the U.K. during the WW2. I have tried the government and because I do not have rank and serial # or proof that he has been dead for more than 20 years they will not give me the information. All I have is his name, James Laws or Lawes nicknamed 'Red' and was blue-eyed and red-gold hair and was in the Petersfield area in May 1941. Where he came from in Canada I do not know so if there is someone out there that is either a member of the family or is researching the name I would love to hear from you. I will allay fears to any that might think that I am after more than information, rest assured that as a 64 I would just like to know my ancestry to complete what I have done. If family would like to get to know me that would be great.

Hi Tuppence, I do not know of your names but thought I would post as I have just joined this message board to ask how to locate an older half sister who was born in Sussex England in 1944.Our father was Canadian.

Wendy

There are only two James Lawes in Canada in the 1911 Census. One was born in 1908 in Alberta, Canada. His parents were James & Hannah Lawes born in England. They went to the USA before they were married, James in 1892 and Hannah in 1889. In the 1900 census, they are living in Carbon city, Wyoming, USA with three children. In 1911 they are living in Alberta, Canada with three more children, the youngest, James, born in Jul 1908, which would make him 31 at the beginning of the war. 1911 is about the latest data that is easily available, so if your James was born later than that, it is going to be difficult. I am not connected in any way with this family, just love a mystery.
If you want scans of these two census documents, email me at
