Doing my family tree but tracing through the female parenting side but have hit a snag. I have followed through all the census` back to 1861 the surname "Freeborough" but although have found my great great Grandfathers marriage record in Leicestershire in the Year 1859 and his name entered on the BMD marriage index record ( His Surname) how do i find a record of the brides name as I want to find out her maiden name to trace her roots? any one know? just started this family tree interest, do i have to try and find a marriage certificate with all names included, how do you do this???

when you look on Freeband there is a no page no press that and it tells you others on the register there is a Jane Mawby listed but another man also so I loooked at the 1861 census and living in Leicester St Margaret is a Jasper Freeborough age 26 a brick maker and his wife Jane age 20 aalso from Leicestershire and their daughter El;izabethage 10mths

I am assuming it is Jasper freeborough as he is only one listed on freebmd for 1859

I think you're skipping a step.

The birth certificate of one of the children will give you the father's name and the mother's maiden name. THEN you can look for a marriage.

I've never encountered one myself but I suppose there are certificates where no father is recorded for fairly obvious reasons?

If I haven't misunderstood it, the questioner seems to be asking about the identity of a mother, not a father.

Barbara Dixon's site has fairly detailed information on the 'father's name' column on a birth certificate.

My great grandfather was Jasper Freeborough. He married a Jane Mawby according to info given me by my uncle, but I do not have a copy of the
marriage certificate. My great grandmother was Eliza Freeborough who married twice, firstly to Oliver Thorpe, then to James Roberts. Does any of this sound familiar to you? Maybe we are related somehow !

Are you still stuck? Jasper Freeborough was my great grandfather's brother (Charles Henry Freeborough - CHF). CHF had a hardworking, but prolific parenting history. He changed his name from Charles Henry to Charles to Henry at various times, more details later, if you consider it relevant. From memory - Jasper also seemed to go through a number names, his wife and children were in the workhouse under the name Freebrough, she must have died, as I found him later with another. To tell you more I would have to look at my notes, which may not now be relevant.

His parents were John Freeborough (formerly von Freiberg - as the town near Dresden) and Elizabeth Sumpter ..........., people ofter prefer to do their own research ...........

Hi,
I have not been on this site for years now, wondered if you still on lol! I am really interested in the FRIEBERG part as my late mother insisted we had German ancestors but i never found it proper. My Great Grandfather was Jasper Freeborough that married Jane Mawby. Jane did go to the Leicester Union Workhouse with some small children, i found that Jasper was not widowed as said on the 1881 Census but she was living with a William Stone. Jane was also on the 1891 Census with William, some of her Children and also his and also her Mother Matilda Mawby, Strange hey!
