A rough date would be needed to give advice on where to look for passenger lists (if they exist) and births at sea. Can you narrow it down to a year?

dose anyone have any information about the passengers on this ship im particulariy intrested in the children born on the shipPresuming that this ship came to Australia - children born at sea are registered on arrival. I know that Victoria has a separate Marine births /deaths index, not sure about other States.

haylierose, if you go to this site, enter Netherby in the search engine, it will come up with an arrival in Melbourne 1866 - with a link to a lady who has a passenger list. I do not know if the email link is current, but would presume so as the site is updated weekly.

A google search reveals that this ship was actually wrecked off King Island, and a little girl was born whilst the emigrants where waiting on shore to be rescued. I would say that any children born on board would be in Victoria's Marine register mentioned previously.

the Marine index can be searched free online - but it cost's A.99c per page to view any results. (for example - a surname might give 6 results on one page) But if you post a specific request to the Australia forum, someone may have this cd and supply the index information.

Hi haylierose

I also searched and it does not offer Netherby as a choice among the ships at all, so you need to look elsewhere. There is not a birth registered to those parents for children in Victoria 1836-1888.

So, back to geoffers response - could you supply more detail on year and location of the ship so better advice can be given (this thread should really be in emigration :D)

haylierose, I saw your other post, so decided to check the PROV indexes and spotted your family in the Unassisted Arrivals July 1866.

The shipping list is held at the Public Records Office of Victoria.

Your Charles is listed as aged 1 - but no indication if this is 1 year or 1 month, since he does not appear in the Marine Index of births then he may be a year old - as it was the responsibility of the ship's captain to register him. But, since the ship was wrecked maybe this was overlooked. Only seeing the actual shipping list with births and deaths info in the manifest or surgeons report attached will clear it up.

You could try posting in the Australia forum and someone going to the PROV office may be able to look.
